Charlotte Museum of History wins Video Storytelling Prize Package at SEED20 OnStage
At SEED20 OnStage this year, SVP Partner and professional videographer Eddie Angelbello awarded a customized video storytelling prize package to the Charlotte Museum of History (CMH). As an established nonprofit, CMH applied to SVP’s SEED20 program to gain exposure and funding for a new acquisition to their campus, the Siloam School, a historic African American schoolhouse in Mecklenburg County.
Built around 1920, the Siloam School is one of the oldest remaining African American schoolhouses in Mecklenburg County and a rare example of a Rosenwald-era school. The school was originally constructed by the local Black community and served as a beacon of education during a time of racial segregation. The Charlotte Museum of History has undertaken the project to relocate, restore, and preserve this important piece of history. The restored Siloam School now serves as a center for history education, focusing on the 20th-century Black experience and the region’s history of racial discrimination and injustice.
As a passionate and talented videographer, Eddie amplified the stories of ten SEED20 nonprofit participants in the Class of 2024.His work involves creating introductory video segments that highlight each nonprofit’s mission and vision to help them reach a broader audience during the marketing season leading up to SEED20 OnStage and beyond. This initiative not only supports the nonprofits in their fundraising and awareness efforts but also enriches the community by sharing diverse and impactful stories.
For the Charlotte Museum of History, Eddie’s prize package included a professionally produced 13-minute video that tells the story of the Siloam School through the voices of those who experienced it firsthand. Nolan Dahm, CMH’s Programs and Exhibits Manager, recently shared:
“We really value this video because it is the only existing video of Martha Barringer inside the Siloam School. She is the only living alumna of the school (she turns 101 in September 2024), and her perspective has been invaluable to the restoration process and our interpretation of the building. Given the importance of this video, we wanted to make sure it was well-produced, and we were glad that Eddie Angelbello did such a great job on the production. We hope our supporters will appreciate Martha as a person and the Siloam School as a monument to the story of Black education in our city.”
Dahm shared that SVP helped amplify the CMH mission by enabling the production of this excellent educational content, which the Museum would not have otherwise been able to produce in-house. Dahm shared his appreciation to SVP Charlotte for this unique and special connection to Eddie through SEED20 OnStage. Angelbello Films’ generosity and flexibility with scheduling ensured that CMH was able to film Martha and her daughter Maxine Barringer at the school on a day when the light was right, and she was available.
Eddie’s dedication both to his craft and his community is evident in every project he undertakes. His work with the Charlotte Museum of History, SEED20 participants, and now as a creative writing professor at UNC Charlotte, exemplifies the power of storytelling in preserving history and promoting social good.
