From Lottery Win to Community Win: Barry Shipp’s Journey with Pivot Point and SVP
Barry Shipp, CEO of Pivot Point Transitional Housing, hit the jackpot earlier last month with an NC Lottery scratch-off ticket. Committed to his cause, Barry pledged a large portion of his $200,000 prize to his nonprofit, which constructs mobile tiny homes for those without shelter. This tremendous news follows his award-winning pitch at SEED20 OnStage last year when took home the $20,000 Wells Fargo People’s Choice Grand Prize.
Barry’s collaboration with SVP Charlotte continues with capacity-building support through our Spark Teams programs, which he began last fall. Spark Teams support our SEED20 and SVP Investees by providing them with short-term advisory services to increase organizational capacity. Barry is actively working with John Pesavento, an SVP Partner and current SEED20 coach to reimagine his organization’s board development, governance, and strategic planning. When asked to describe the impact working with John has had on his organization, Barry shared the following:
“Since I started working with the SVP SPARK Team it feels like a breath of fresh air, with having someone to direct me with the best next steps and to help me to identify weak points with the organization and how to strengthen it.”
