The Hope to Home program provides lasting solutions to housing instability through a network of collaborative partners who believe that all people possess the capability to make transformative life choices. Hope to Home is committed to the power of “client voice, client choice” and believes all relationships should be guided by compassion, empathy, and respect for each person, partner and the community.
How did this program get started?
Lack of affordable housing and the voice of the families we serve led to the creation of the unique vision of Hope to Home. Needing to create a solution and the belief that collaboration strengthens services, Ada Jenkins Center, Hope House Foundation and Our Towns Habitat for Humanity developed a partnership to work together collaboratively focused on the family by providing transitional, progressive to permanent housing.
From where does your passion for this cause come?
As a helping professional working with families to overcome obstacles, I had no solutions to resolve housing barriers families faced. Through community efforts housing obstacles where identified and solutions where created but the need was still there. Creating lasting solutions begins with that stake in the ground, which is housing. Before I leave the Ada Jenkins Center, I want to be able to proudly provide a housing solution to the community.
Why is your work so important?
The result of these partnerships will provide families with a strong safety net needed to rebuild and strengthen their futures. Hope to Home provides skills needed for sustainability. It helps prevent unplanned moves to eliminate the negative impact on children. Hope to Home works with landlords to allow families with barriers the ability to rent. It provides services, support, resources, advocacy and solutions that invite the entire community to the equation.
What excites you most about the SEED20 process?
I am excited for the opportunity and for the personal and professional development. I definitely am fascinated by what I fear and public speaking is one of them. So while the process requires me to step out of my personal comfort zone I know that by doing this it will help to achieve the final goal of providing housing opportunities to the families we work with.
What do you hope to gain from the SEED20 experience?
Even if I am not chosen for the top 10, I hope to walk away feeling more confident in my ability to speak to a large audience and in smaller settings when I feel uncomfortable. Just knowing that a large audience felt my passion about how integral this one security is to make our families lives simply put “livable” is in itself a gain. I would also like to become more familiar with all the social platforms available and how they are used to promote innovative ideas.
